Does this sound like you?

"A human creature born abnormally, inhumanely sensitive. To them... a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create -- so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, their very breath is cut off...They must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency they are not really alive unless they are creating."

Pearl S. Buck said that, and she was an HSP. A Highly Sensitive Person.

Do these things bother or upset or stress you? Bright lights, knocks at the door, alarm clocks, loud noises, chaos, crowded rooms, rough clothing, strong emotions from other people, heavy smells or perfumes? Do you find that after being social, you have to retreat and recharge? Have you been called "too sensitive" or an introvert? Do you find it hard to deal with all that goes on around you?

This is not a disorder. We are easily overwhelmed due to Sensory Processing Sensitivity. We now know that certain people are born with a specific brain architecture that make them unusually aware of stimuli. Yet some of the most beautiful, noteworthy and brilliant creative acts and works have been given to us by HSP's.

The modern pioneer of this research is Elaine Aron, PhD. Please visit her site, http://hsperson.com/ and also take the self-test there (or here) to discover if you might be one of us. If so, then knowing this about yourself can change everything. You are not alone. There's nothing "wrong" with you.

If you are in the Denver region, please join us. (or join us even if you're not). It's time HSP's embraced the wonderful people they are, and that begins by finding each other in our local areas, and sharing our unique nature, supporting one another. Let's be friends.
